Indoor Camping Checklist
Step 1: Clear space for the tent
The Happy Camper Pop-Up Tent may fold flat, but once it’s open, you’ll need to clear away furniture or other toys to make space for it. This is a great activity to do with your kids because it teaches them the importance of tidying up.
Step 2: Get packing!
Once the indoor camping spot is secured, give your child their packing list. Let them write their name, your family name, or whatever silly camp name they create, at the top of the page. Then let them hunt for all the things on the list. If your child is too young to collect all the things on their list alone, have fun collecting everything together.
Step 3: Pitch the tent and start the campfire!
Unlike real camping, this step can be done in a snap. The tent pops up, essentially pitching itself, and the campfire toy is already roaring. Lay the toys out for your children to enjoy and see their excitement. When they come back to the campsite with the backpacks and completed checklists, they’ll be so happy to see the tent ready and waiting for them!
You can throw in extra pillows and blankets to turn the tent into a fort. When it’s time for lights out, find fun ways to light up the room, either with fairy lights, glow sticks, or the flashlights you packed.
Staycation ideas: Indoor Camping Charades
One of the simplest but most enjoyable staycation ideas is charades. It’s the perfect game for indoor camping. Have your child act out classic camping activities, like swatting mosquitoes, swimming in the lake, or telling spooky stories. The Battat Indoor Camping Activity Sheet lists fun camping-related charades for the whole family.
Little ones may need help reading the slips of paper, so teams (with an older and younger pairing) are recommended for toddlers. Once you’ve gone through all the camping charades provided, keep the game going by making up your own!
When it’s time to sleep, lay out the blankets and play nature sounds (frogs croaking, crickets chirping, owls hooting). It’ll help turn the indoor camping experience into something realistic and special, and the soothing sounds should help your kids drift to sleep after all that excitement!
